I don’t get cravings for a lot of different kinds of food, but I do get cravings for brownies!  I could eat them all the time – fudge brownies, cheesecake brownies, brownie bars like these… yum, yummy, yum.  The only problem is that nobody else in my little household eats them!  So my choices are either to bring them to work to share, or to hoard them all to myself.

Which one do you think I chose?

Fudge-Filled Brownie Bars

You’ll Need:

1 1/2 c. flour
3/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. butter, softened
1 egg yolk
3/4 tsp. vanilla
1 package Duncan Hines Fudge Brownie Mix
1 egg
1/3 c. water
1/3 c. vegetable oil
2 c. chocolate chips, melted
3/4 c. chopped walnuts

How To:

Preheat oven to 350F.

In a large bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, butter, egg yolk, and vanilla.  Press into the bottom of a 9×13 glass baking dish.  Cook for 15 minutes or until golden.

Meanwhile, combine the brownie mix, egg, water, and vegetable oil.  Yes, these are different quantities than the box suggests.  Ignore the box.  Spread the mixture evenly over the cookie crust and bake for another 15 minutes.  Remove from the oven and let sit for 30 minutes.  Remember, these are fudgy brownies, so don’t be surprised if it looks a little goopy.  Just don’t undercook it.

Using a double-boiler, or a clever concoction of two pots to create a makeshift double-boiler, melt the chocolate chips.  Spread over the brownies and top with walnuts.

Eat!
