Grandma Ople’s Apple Pie

You’ll Need:

2 pastry crusts for a 9” pie
1/2 c. butter
2 tbsp. flour
1/4 c. water
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
8 granny smith apples: peeled, cored, and sliced
2 tbsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. nutmeg

How To:

Preheat oven to 425F.

Melt the butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour to form a paste. Add water, sugar, and brown sugar and bring to a boil. Reduce temperature and let simmer.

Place the bottom crust in a pie pan. Toss the apples with cinnamon and nutmeg. Fill pie crust with apples, mounded slightly. Pour most of the sugar and butter liquid over the apples. Cover with latticework crust, and pour remaining sugar and butter liquid over that, pouring carefully so that none spills over.

Bake 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350F. Continue baking for 35-45 minutes, until the apples are soft.
