Amish Sugar Cookies

You’ll Need:

2 1/3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cream or tartar
1/2 c. butter, room temperature
1/2 c. vegetable oil
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
sprinkles or colored sugar, for topping

How To:

Preheat the oven to 375F.

In a mixing bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, and cream of tartar.

In a seperate bowl, cream together butter, vegetable oil, and sugars until blended.  Mix in egg and vanilla.  Slowly mix the sugar mixture into the flour mixture and cmobine.

Scoop out dough by heaping tablespoonfuls and shape into balls.  Transfer to a parchment peper-lined baking sheet, spacing cookies about 2 inches apart.  Flatten slightly and top with sprinkles or sugar as desired.  Bake for 10 minutes.

Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack.  Store in an airtight container.

This is a recipe from CookingClassy.  She advertises it as a”crisp” sugar cookie, and I can tell you mine didn’t come out like that at all; they were still delicious, though.  When these first came out of the oven, they were very soft, which is fine with me because that’s how I like cookies.  Once them cooled, they were crumbly and a little more dry, but nothing I would describe as “crisp”.  Still, very good sugar cookies. – originally tested 12/22/13
